Volunteer
Volunteers are the heart of many organizations and ours is no exception. Without volunteers, we would not be able to offer the variety of services we currently do. The South Suburban Humane Society utilizes volunteers in a number of ways:
-
Shelter Volunteers - Walk dogs, socialize cats, help clean cages, bathe animals
-
Off-site Adoption/Showcasing Events - Take animals to locations in the community to help increase their chance for finding a loving home
-
Adoption Volunteers - Help customers who are interested in adopting one of our animals
-
Office Volunteers - Help with office duties such as filing or inputting information into the computer
-
Humane Education Volunteers - Go to schools and other locations in the community to spread the humane message
-
Pet Therapy Volunteers - Go to local hospitals and care homes to bring the warmth of animal's love to people who don't have the opportunity to receive it otherwise
-
Abuse Investigations - Help stop animal cruelty and neglect by becoming a state-licensed investigator
-
Resale employment Volunteers - Help at one of our two resale employments, sorting and tagging donated items, putting items on the floor, etc. to help us raise money for the animals
-
Foster Parent Volunteers - Help us care for animals who are sick or too young to put on the adoption floor until they are well enough or big enough to come back to the shelter to find a home
-
Shelter Friends - Help us raise much needed funds to keep our organization running
All volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. Younger volunteers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of their visit at the shelter or shelter function.
New volunteers are required to attend a Volunteer Orientation at the humane society. Orientations are scheduled in advance and are from 6 - 7:30 p.m. in the shelter's multi-purpose room. Please downlad an application, complete your profile, and bring the application with you to orientation.
If you are interested in volunteering, please email Jennifer at outreach@sshspets.org or call our shelter at 708-755-PETS. You can also download the volunteer application and bring it in to the shelter. Click here to download application.
