Low Cost Spay and Neuter Program

Help end pet overpopulation by spaying and neutering your pet. We offer certificates at a reduced fee to spay and neuter your dog or cat at one of our participating veterinarian offices. Fees start at $50.00 and increase from there depending on the weight of your pet. Visit the shelter to pay for your certificate. You will be given a list of vets who volunteer in our program. Once you have your certificate, contact the vet you are interested in and set up your appointment. For more information email Sandi at sandi@sshspets.org .

Cruelty and Neglect Investigations

Our Approved Humane Investigators enforce state laws based on the Humane Care for Animals Act. If you suspect that an animal is being abused or neglected, contact our investigators immediately at 708-755-7387 or email . Please make sure you an exact address, complete description of animal or animals, and details of the abuse or neglect. All complaints are confidential and situations will be evaluated within 24 hours of the initial complaint. If necessary a recheck will be performed to ensure compliance with the Illinois law. You can help us make a difference. Call and save a life.

Behavior Consultations and Classes

Make relinquishing your pet the last resort. Many behaviors can be fixed. Let our Animal Behaviorist help you work through common behavior issues before you decide to give your pet up for adoption. We also offer Obedience Classes and support for our SSHS adopters and adoptees. Email or call him at 708-755-7387 ext. 227.

Pet Identification

Many animals that end up in our shelter are strays - so do your part to make sure your pet isn't one of them. We offer 24 Hour Pet Watch microchips for only $10.00. General identification tags for your pet's collar are also offered at our shelter free of charge. You can stop in and register your pet with us and it will assure your pet's safe return.

Educational Materials

The more you learn the happier you'll be - and your pet will too. We have many brochures and pamphlets on helping owners deal with training and behavioral issues. Visit the shelter or call us and we'd be happy to assist. No problem is too big - we can help.

Humane Education Visits

We bring the shelter to you. Our Humane Educator will visit many area organizations and groups to teach all ages the importance of responsible pet care, animal safety, bite prevention and the shelter's role in your community. You will be provided with educational materials and a chance to visit with one of our available animals. Call the shelter today to schedule your visit.

Birthday Parties

Your next birthday party will be going to the animals if you have it at the South Suburban Humane Society. For a $100.00 donation you can schedule a party in our shelter's multi-purpose room. Our Humane Educator will be there to give demonstrations on animal handling and you'll get a private tour of the shelter with the chance to get up close and personal with the many puppies and kittens we have available for adoption.

Lost and Found Services

The first thing you can do to help your lost pet find its way home is to license, tag and /or microchip them. If your pet does get lost, or if you've found one, call the humane society right away. We keep logs of lost and found animals. Many times those animals are right in our very shelter, but we won't know unless you call. Also, post flyers and contact neighbors, police departments and other local shelters to see if the animal was brought to them. The more you do the better chance your pet will have of returning safely home.
